PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT / HEALTH / PHYSICAL EDUCATION

PD/H/PE is one of the six Key Learning areas in the NSW Primary Curriculum. This syllabus is based on a broad notion of health that encompasses all aspects of an individual’s wellbeing, inclusive of social, mental, physical and spiritual health.

PD/H/PE encourages an understanding and value of self and others, promotes physical activity, emphasises informed decision making leading to effective and responsible action.

Areas covered under the umbrella of PD/H/PE at Hanwood Public School include:

•  Life Education Van with the inspiring and lovable Healthy Harold. Here the children learn how to make well informed choices on health issues.

•  Child Protection lessons where the children discuss life changes and associated feelings.

•  Sport and Fitness helping the children become aware of the connection between physical activity and health. Children are given every opportunity to participate in physical activity at their fitness and skill level.

•  Drug Education lessons where again the children are encouraged to discuss factors influencing the personal health choices they may need to make.

• Values Education

• Anti Bullying and Resilience program

•  Sun Protection, Water Safety and Water Wise awareness.

•  Transition to High School program for year 6

PD/H/PE activities help to ensure that as the children leave primary school they are suitably equipped to make well informed decisions.

The syllabus and other supporting material for PD/Health/PE K-6 is available from the Board of Studies.
