CRITERIA FOR NON-LOCAL ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS:

  • Preference given to siblings of children already enrolled at the school where possible;

  • Other factors could include, but not in priority order:

  1. Proximity and access to school

  2. Medical reasons

  3. Safety and supervision before and after school

  4. Availability of subjects and extra curricula programs

  5. Compassionate circumstances

  6. Structure and organisation of school

  • Waiting lists may be established and parents will be advised in writing of their child’s position on list.

  • Waiting lists will reflect realistic expectations of potential vacancies and are current for one year only.

  • Appeals may be made in writing to the Principal.  If the matter is not resolved at local level, the District Superintendent will make a determination.

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

When students with special needs are seeking enrolment into regular classes, an appraisal of their educational and support will be undertaken. This may occur as part of a planned transition process, or at the time the enrolment is sought and may involve liaising with pre-school staff, the School Counsellor and/or other DET staff.

In determining the most appropriate enrolment options a number of factors will need to be considered including:

·         Expressed desire of the parents/caregivers

·         Appraisal of educational and support needs

·         Appraisal of school’s ability to cater for child e.g. behavioural, disabilities, OH&S legislation

·         Capacity to provide the level of support required e.g. staff, training etc.

·         Availability of services at alternative locations

The Principal may reject a submission for enrolment on the above grounds. If child is within local area, enrolment will only take place after the child’s needs have been addressed and met.
